Here is information I received from Fred Rion who is responsible for coordinating NIMS training for Monroe County employees. He has forwarded announcements of classroom-based training opportunities which are available to RACES members. NIMS certification ICS-100/IS-700 and ICS-200/IS-800 will be required for all RACES members who require access to the EOC and RACES radio room in the near future. All four certification courses can be downloaded from FEMA website, http://www.fema.gov/emergency/nims/index.shtm and reviewed. Final tests can be submitted through the same site. In addition, courses can be viewed (interactive study computer-based training) and tests taken while on-line. A certificate of successful completion is mailed to the student. In-person classes are scheduled for the following dates. You must be a member of RACES to sign up and attend:
IS-100 and IS-700 (choose one of the three options) - Monday, June 5, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. (IS-100 and IS-700);
- Monday, June 19, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. (IS-100 and IS-700) ;
- Monday, June 26, 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. (IS-700) AND Tuesday, June 27, 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. (IS-100)
Registration deadline for all IS-100/IS-700 classes is May 25. IS-200 (choose one of the three options) - Monday, July 10, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Tuesday, July 11, 8 a.m. – Noon (reg deadline 7/1)

- Monday July 24 6-10PM, Tuesday July 25 6-10PM, Wednesday July 26, 6-10PM (reg deadline 7/14)
Student enrollment is limited to 25. Pre-registration is required and no one will be admitted without pre-registration. Pre-registration can be accomplished by completing the attached form and returning it to the Monroe County Fire Bureau (hand deliver, mail or FAX to 753-3867). Each set of classes has a registration deadline that must be adhered to. Click here to download the registration form. |
